Halloween 2010

We had a fun, laid-back Halloween weekend, filled with pumpkin carving, friends, family and football (what more could you ask for?!)

Me and Becky all dressed up for our YW Halloween party

We went up to Heather and Jerry's for a fun night of carving pumpkins and some good old fashioned chillin.

We had fun hanging out with Kellyn, Brett and my dad, watching the U game (go Utes!), carving pumpkins and passing out candy!

We went up and watched the Packer game with Laura and Scot and ate lots and lots of candy! Yum!

Our first married Halloween was lots of fun! Hope yours was great, too!

Halloween Oreo Suckers

I made these to take to our young women's halloween party the other night, and they were really fun! I originally saw them here, and thought they were so cute and easy enough for my skill level. :) They're fun, easy, and most importantly, delicious! These would definitely be a fun thing to do with kids or to make to give away as a little gift.

Melt a handful of white chocolate chips in the microwave to help hold the sticks in the middle of the oreo
Melt chocolate chips in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds or so until they are smooth and melted

Put a couple of little dots with black frosting for the eyes and add a few drizzle lines of frosting if you want to make mummies, and that's it!

Have a Happy Halloween weekend!

October Girl's Night

My friends have recently decided that we need to get together more often because life gets so busy that we barely see each other! So we are trying to get together every month, and sweet Missy volunteered to graciously host this month. She works at Jolly's Pharmacy, which I would highly recommend anyone go to if they haven't because it is the cutest store I have ever seen. Seriously. I could spend way too much money there, so I try not to even go there too often. Among all of the darling things they have there is cute tissue paper and ribbon, so we made some cute tissue paper balls! I'm sure you have all seen and made these, but here is the tutorial if you haven't. They are so cheap and easy, you should all give them a try!

Yummy treats! (Recipes are posted below...)

It was so much fun to spend time together and catch up while getting our craft on. Can't wait for next time!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread

I have always loved the pumpkin chocolate chip bread at Great Harvest because it is so delicious! This recipe is the best homemade pumpkin bread that I have ever tasted, so hopefully you enjoy it as well!

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp ground nutmeg
2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp salt
3 cups sugar
1 (15 oz) can pumpkin
1 cup canola oil
2/3 cup water
1 tsp vanilla
4 large eggs
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray three 9x5 inch loaf pans with cooking spray and set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl or mixer, combine sugar pumpkin, canola oil, water, vanilla and eggs. Mix until smooth.
4. Slowly blend in the flour mixture. Fold in chocolate chips. Evenly divide batter between the three loaf pans.
5. Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until browned and a toothpick comes out clean. Remove loaves from the oven and cool in pans on wire rack for 15 minutes.
6. With a knife, go around the bread and loosen the loaves from pan. Remove from pan and cool completely before slicing.

Halloween Craft Time

I've had my fair share of spare time lately and have needed breaks in between applying for every job I can find. Cue... craft time! I have been finding so many cute Halloween crafts on blogs and such, so I thought that I would give one a try. I found THIS cute candy corn decor and decided to whip out the old sewing machine to give it a try. It was surprising easy and cheap, and it really turned out to be a lot of fun!

All I needed was:
3 squares of orange felt
2 squares of yellow felt
7 pieces of white felt
ribbon
clothes pins
jewel embellishments
a sewing machine

Here are the results!

It's fun to have some extra time on my hands, but I am definitely feeling a little stir crazy and really hoping to find a job soon. Until then, I'll be channeling my energy towards applications and more creativity!
