Cinco Di Mayo

This year for our Young Women's fundraiser we had a Cinco Di Mayo party for the ward. It turned out to be so much fun and we were able to raise a good chunk of money for girls camp and other activities for our cute girls this year! Eric and I got to dress up in our Mexican best and collect the money as people came in and then as they paid for their items they won in the auction. It was a great night!

My hot Mexican husband!

Aren't these the cutest cupcakes? This was our most exciting purchase of the night!

Lights at Temple Square

We went with a small group of our young women to see the lights down at Temple Square last week, and it was absolutely gorgeous! I love these girls so much!

Optimism

I love having a calling in Young Womens. Of course, I absolutely love the girls, and I feel so lucky to have such amazing girls to hang out with every week! But I have also loved the opportunity to learn so much through teaching lessons. This week the lesson was on optimism, and it was so awesome to be able to research and learn so much about this topic. I feel like striving to have optimism is so important for everyone of all ages, and it is definitely something that I know I can work on having.

Here are some of my favorite quotes and things I learned while I was preparing to teach about this topic:
  • "The difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is how you use them" -Unknown
  • "I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination." -Unknown
  • "Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending." -Unknown
  • "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." -Winston Churchill
  • "If we approach adversities wisely, our hardest times can be times of greatest growth, which in turn can lead toward times of greatest happiness." -Joseph B. Wirthlin
  • "Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect rightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father, ye shall have eternal life." -2 Nephi 31:20
  • "Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you: and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come." -D&C 68:6
  • "I have learned a secret. I have learned that when good men and good women face challenges with optimism, things will always work out! Truly, things always work out! Despite how difficult circumstances may look at the moment, those who have faith and move forward with a happy spirit will find that things always work out." -President Gordon B. Hinkley, Way To Be

Young Women's

I absolutely LOVE my calling. If I could pick any calling in the church, it would be the one that I have. I am so blessed to have the best girls and to be a part of an incredible presidency. I have had so much fun getting to know all of these girls and women over the past few months, especially during our trips to youth conference and girl's camp this summer. My family makes fun of me because when I am telling them stories about them, I often say "one of my friends..." instead of "one of my young women...." Maybe I have so much fun with them because I have found friends who are more on my maturity level and like all of the things that I like! The Twighlight series (Team Jacob), Glee (looove it!), Harry Potter, playing kickball (if only I were as good as Becky...), Disney movies, and Hannah Montana (sad, but true!). I only hope that these girls have half as much fun as I have with them.
