Our last stop was Germany! My dad went on his mission to Germany in the Dusseldorf area (sort of the northern, western part of the country) and has not been back since, so it was so much fun going back with him after over 35 years and sharing that experience with him. It's obvious through his stories and memories that he was an amazing missionary, and we all loved walking around the different cities that he was in with him. We were able to track down two of the churches he went to and one of the apartments he lived in while he was there. I really liked Germany a lot and had a great time here!
We decided to go to a German soccer game while we were there to have the real European football (or fussball) experience. We saw FC Koln play at the Rhein Energie Stadium, and it was AMAZING! It made Real games look as tame as a crowd watching a golf tournament. The fans were so loud and excitable! There was not a moment in the game when the crowd was not cheering, making it truly a memorable experience.
After 17 days of traveling, we made it back safe and sound and slightly jet lagged to the US of A. As incredible as being in Europe was, it made me truly appreciate living in the wonderful country we live in. Here we live in the land of comfy mattresses, air conditioning, ice cubes, non-smoking sections, and incredible opportunity.I am incredibly grateful to have gone on this trip of a lifetime. Now, back to the REAL world!
